Program Milestones
If you planned to have a committee meeting or qualifying exam this spring or summer, I encourage you to keep those dates and have the meeting. It’s a great time to check-in with your committee members so everyone knows how your work had been affected. As a group, you can come up with new strategies considering the uncertainty about returning to campus & research facilities.
Writer and professor, Dr. Eve Ewing, gave great advice about this on Twitter. It may be easy to initially dismiss, but give it some thought and explore the Tier II and III possibilities with your committee so you are prepared in case your Tier I plans are not feasible.
I am advising all doctoral students to come up with 3 different dissertation plans right now.

Tier 1: "normal" life
Tier 2: significantly restricted/delayed data gathering. Tier 1, but later, or fewer people
Tier 3: a dissertation you can write using ONLY remote resources.
